Recently I was introduced to a transcendent, brilliant piece of filmmaking known as The Room. For those of you aware of this gem, you understand why this movie necessitates more than an hour of our time. For those of you who have not yet experienced the movie consider this your introduction to a world which will never quite be the same. To help me analyze and dissect this masterpiece I brought in some of the finest names in podcasting, all of which have been previously features on this show in some fashion. These guests include Bill, Chris, and Mel from Outside the Cinema, Freddy, Amy, and Andy from Night of the Living Podcast, and also Brandi and Dave from Inside Outcast. If that wasn’t enough we were also thrilled to get an interview with Greg Sestero (AKA “O hai, Mark!”) from the film. During this episode we talk about the highs and lows of the film and why we love it, and why some of us hate it.
When The Room debuted in 2003 movie-goers didn’t quite know what to make of the movie. It wasn’t until several years later that people finally started to accept the movie for what it is and truly enjoy it. As four sassy black ladies once said, “free your mind and the rest will follow.” The Room is not a movie that you can watch with a critical eye, rather think of it as a ride that twists and turns when you least expect it and leaves you with a million questions. At least that’s how the fans who attend midnight screenings in tuxedos and red dresses while carrying footballs see it. The Room has become a phenomena, so much so that Greg Sestero is working on a tell-all book and wants your questions on his Facebook page (one of the aforementioned million questions you’ll no doubt be wondering after you complete the film).
So come along with us through this wild, wacky ride as we take an in-depth and spoiler-filled look at this movie. If you’ve seen it you’ll want to hear more, and if you haven’t then let us introduce you. You won’t be sorry.

With Demise from First Time Caller sitting in as my co-host, podcasting power couple Brandi and Dave stopped by the studio studio to discuss their little show, Inside Outcast. These two are geeks and goths, self proclaimed, and their show not only encapsulates these aspects of their personality but also their marriage, their passions, their humor, and their undeniable charm. On the show they talk about movies, television, books, games, food, work, family, politics, and anything else that comes to mind. The best part is this couple aren’t only married but they’re also best friends and are passionate about the same things. In short these two are just so cute it kind of makes you wanna puke but you can’t not like them.
We also found time to discuss the portrayal of Geeks, Goths, and Gays in popular media. We found a few examples of times that they got it right and a whole mess of times that they missed the mark by a mile. We assumed that Demise, being a straight, white female would play the role of The Man just keeping a brother down. But even she’s felt the media’s biased representation of herself in films and television. So we discovered that everybody hates the way they are depicted on screen, until the day the CW finally reads my treatment and casts Jake Gyllenhaal as me in Here’s Fozzie!
Did you really think I’d let Brandi and Dave leave without bleeding and whimpering through The World Famous Lightning Round? Of course not. I gave it to them rough but of course these power-houses countered my every strike. But what was their final score? Tune in to find out, won’t you?

Most of you will probably recognize this week’s guest. Val Emmich has had guest starring roles on 30 Rock and Ugly Betty and most recently he was in a nationally syndicated beer commercial where he pursued his boss’ daughter. But his acting aside, the real reason we had Val in the studio studio is because of podcast, Stay in Touch with Val Emmich. On his show he has phone chats with friends, family, and others to simply see what’s going on. It sounds pretty basic but Val touches on some hard hitting issues and plenty of laughs along the way.
In our second section we all decided it would be a wise idea to list the top five most annoying questions that we get asked on a regular basis to hopefully prevent listeners from asking them in the future. Mostly I was just excited that I didn’t hit on any of Val’s in the interview section. Score one for Fozzie! Woot woot!
We also subjected Val to The World Famous Lightning Round and my crush on him didn’t prevent me from going easy. Val struggled through but came out smelling like a rose. But what was his score? Please tune in to find out.
Co-host note: DO NOT MISS Fozzie reading the excerpt from his blog (see “crush” link above), in which he SHAMELESSLY GUSHES over Mr. Emmich. Val’s stunned reaction at the unabashed praise is priceless. –Andy
P.S. You’ll notice that our usual outro music is different this week and that’s because we’re using one of Val’s songs called E.S.T. Please check it out at the end of the show and if you want to own it for the love of GOD don’t ask Val how to get it for free. He hates that.

I had Charlie from Movie Fanhouse with me this week because he is not only one of our favorite guests but also a budding filmmaker. Taking a diversion from our usual fare we’re beginning to feature people who don’t necessarily have a podcast, but have a strong web presence in a series of episodes we’re calling “Outside the Earbuds.” The first guest in this series is Trevor from Windcast Pictures who stopped by the studio studio to talk about his web-based films. The most popular being Have a Nice Day which is different than most of the videos you’ll find on Youtube because it’s adorable and WON’T make you want to vomit. Without giving too much away it’s about a teddy bear and the troubles he faces in one day and I can assure you the movie will leave you smiling more than any jackass kid coming home from the dentist ever could. But Trevor isn’t stopping there. He already has a feature under his belt and other projects in the works featuring puppets and zombies. F*%kin’ awesome, right?!
As Trevor is an independent filmmaker we took section two to talk about the guerrilla tactics he’s employed to get his projects done. From quick shots without a permit, to creative effects for missing props, to rewriting scripts to accommodate available sets Trevor has seen it all. Any budding filmmaker or film buff should know the trials and tribulations people go through to get a project made. If you plan to make a film someday be prepared to compromise not only your creative vision but possibly your morals. But it will all be for fame and money so it’s OK.
Speaking of fame Trevor was the latest victim of The World Famous Lightning Round. Considering most of the questions were about films I assumed he’d do well. But did he? Did he!? This is the dramatic third act and you’ll have to tune in to see if our hero took the brass ring and conquered the antagonist.

While Andy was off with his wife and kids I decided to gay things up by bringing in RJ and Chris from A Cup of Fresh Hell (With a Side of Heaven) with guest co-host Demise from First Time Caller as our honorary hag for the evening. RJ and Chris started the show earlier this year and have covered topics ranging from dating, to family, to anal beads. In short, nothing is too taboo for these two. Well for RJ anyway, especially on his blog. Chris is the nice one who is a bit more shy and demure like me. What?! I am, bitches! Anyway, you can call them at 815-408-0757 and give them a piece of your equally twisted mind.
In section two we ventured into territory that we’ve never covered before on The Pod Pod: relationships. Whereas RJ and Chris are both on the hunt for Mr. Goodbar, I have been in a relationship for three years, and Demise has been married for like a bajillion years and has a son. So we all have disparate viewpoints but the end goal is the same: a loving partner who will die before us and leave us all their millions so we can be sexy cougars.
Even though Chris and RJ are a couple of my gays, they still had to suffer through The World Famous Lightning Round. I devised a common bond round that was so diabolical, so deceptive, so pure evil that it rivals Ms. Joan Crawford herself. Did these guys knock it down? It ain’t their first time at the rodeo. You’ll still have to tune in to find out.

Recently a fire started late at night in the home of Freddy and Amy from Night of the Living Podcast. Luckily everyone was fine and the damage was primarily confined to one room of their home. If any of you have had a fire in your home then you know that even the smallest flair-up requires countless time, energy, and money to repair the smoke and water damage.
After hearing about this fire I put out a casual call for donations to the friends of the show via Twitter and e-mail and was astounded at the results. Within a matter of days the total donations came to a whopping $460.00. This amount has just been sent to Amy and Freddy via their Paypal account and we hope it helps.
We realize Freddy and Amy will most likely try to say “you shouldn’t do this. We don’t need this.” And to that I say, “shaddup and take it.” You’ve provided us all with countless hours of free entertainment and your hospitality at Horrorhound Weekends did not go unnoticed. We appreciate your humor. We appreciate your hard work. We appreciate you and want to help you get the NOTLP Studio back to ship-shape quickly so that we can continue to enjoy your shows.

Yes, I am! Serious about the awesomeness of Are You Serious?. Hosts Frank and Chris stopped by the studio studio to give us some insight into why they started their show, what they talk about, and how stupid Sarah Palin is. Seriously. We’re all waiting for the moment she whips off her wig to reveal she’s Ashton Kutcher trying to bring Punk’d back in a big way. Anyway, the premise of the show is simple: two friends talking about the movies and television shows they watched that week topped off by news and sound bytes of the truly ridiculous. Also during the discussion Frank gave us some insight to his film project, After School Film School where he lures children into the woods and films them. It’s a lot more benign than it sounds when I type it out.
In section two I strong-armed these East Coast liberal elitists into a debate about subversive right-wing messages in popular Hollywood films. From the pro-Bush stance of The Dark Knight to the homophobia in Dawn of the Dead they’re everywhere. I suppose it’s possible that I’m just paranoid and see these hidden messages where they actually aren’t, but I swear I heard Aladin denounce “Obamacare.” He’ll get his!
Chris and Frank were determined to take down The World Famous Lightning Round but did they? I asked a common bond round that boggled the mind and teased the senses. Were these two brainiacs able to snag the 10/10 that no guest has gotten before? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

After having on Tina and Chuck to talk about Doomhouse and Chuck and Tina Spread VD and Jeff on to talk about Joint Ops I thought it was finally time to have on the last member of Television Zombies, Chris, to talk about…Television Zombies. Chris stopped by the studio studio to talk about which shows TVZ covers, what shows they refuse to discuss, and how small his hands are. Like a carny.
In section two what could be more appropriate when chatting with Television Zombies than discussing zombies on television? The upcoming AMC series The Walking Dead, based on the comics, is coming to television this fall and Chris has some inside information that he was reluctant to share. Chris, AKA the apostro-nazi, has been proofreading the comics monthly for Robert Kirkman and is just as excited as the rest of us to see this comic series put to television. We do worry if they’ll stay true to the comics but overall have faith in AMC and the creative team. But as a wise woman once said, “just remember….Don’t fuck it up!”
As always no one gets out of the Pod Pod without taking part in The World Famous Lightning Round. This week’s topic was definitely related to TV but not exactly TV. Did Chris see through my insidious clues to make the connection? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Let’s face it. A lot of movie review podcasts can be pretty damn pretentious. Many would say a movie like The f*&%in’ White Ribbon is the best film of the year. Ya know what? The White Ribbon can eat me. That’s where Charlie and Jesse come in. As the hosts of Movie Fanhouse they realize that most movies are made for fans who want to see giant robots blowing shit up and Megan Fox shaking it. While the two were here in the studio studio they talked about their show, why it’s a unique film podcast, and explained how badly Charlie wants to eat a Watchmen penis. It’ll make sense when you listen.
In section two we took a queue from Movie Fanhouse and did a fave five just like they do on their show each week. This time around we did the alliterative Fave Five Fan Films. This means we can list any and all moves that in anyway relates to a fan in any way possible. We all took it in our unique directions but personally I think mine were the best. I know as a host I shouldn’t say that, but seriously, I’m awesome. Right?
Jesse and Charlie also took part in our World Famous Lightning Round answering questions related to a common bond that we can all relate to. Did they achieve that seemingly unattainable 10 out of 10? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

So ya know how this here show is a so-called podcast about other podcasts? Imagine if we interviewed the hosts of a podcast about other podcasts on our own podcast about other podcasts. Now imagine a snake eating its own tail. Your mind blown yet? Well save a piece to listen to this meaty meta episode featuring First Time Caller hosts Sandy (AKA Demise) and Jay (AKA Stud). When they stopped by our fabulous studio studio we knew we were in for a wild ride. We didn’t quite predict how wild. This thing has an explicit tag, right?
In section two the four of us decided to use our collective brilliance, being the world’s four-most foremost leading voices in podcasting and share some of our favorite shows. Section two wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t also get in trouble and share some of our pet peeves. If we mention something that you as a podcaster are guilty of just remember that we were talking about the other shows that do it. Not you. You’re lovely.
Continuing with the meta-ness of this episode we subjected Sandy and Jay to a common bond trivia round about a topic that is near and dear to my heart. Did these two put their heads together and take the crown as the King and Queen of The World Famous Lightning Round? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
