Halloween Halloween Hootenany Part 2

But wait! There’s more. So many people wanted to get in on the fun that we had to split things up into 2 blood-soaked episodes. In this episode Mr Kevin Carr from Fat Guys at the Movies stops by the studio studio to share his horror movie memories and tells a story about his personal paranormal activity. Next Lee from The Black Dog podcast talks about his love affair with horror sci-fi and the time something nearly scared his knickers off. Not to be outdone 4 of the guys from Bloody Good Horror swing by to share their movie favorites and regale us with tales of true life horror. Also Matt Dillon (no the other one) from Geek Planet Online stops by followed by fan favorites Troy and Charlie from Movie Match-up. Returning guest Ike from Mike and Ike also comes by and lastly we have the charming Mr. Jim Moon from the Hypnogoria podcast lovingly recounts his favorite scary movies and a tale so blood curdling you’ll be second guessing your feline friends for life. It’s all here, in this one episode which will chill your blood, make your heart race, and cause a scream catch in your throat. Happy Halloween everyone!

Halloween Halloween Hootenany Part 1

‘Tis the most wonderful time of the year. From pumpkin carving, to dressing in drag and not getting judged for it, to AMC’s Fearfest I love everything about Halloween. To celebrate I invited some of my best friends over to the studio studio to talk about horror movies, scary moments, and real life horror. I had so many people excited to share their spooky opinions that I had to split the chats into two episodes. In this entry George and I sit down with our friends and neighbors Carlos and Katie who don’t have a podcast but are still good people. Also Erica and Emily and I recorded some thoughts on the way back from the recent Rock and Shock Convention in Worcester, Mass. Stephen from the We Hate Movies podcast lets us in on the horror movies he actually loves. Also Andy from Night of the Living Podcast shares his biggest fears, as do Dave and Brandi from The Inside Outcast. It’s a veritable fright fest from some of our favorite people.

Episode 67 – We Hate Movies

Anyone who knows me knows that I love bad movies, possibly more than anything in the world (other than bloopers….and bloopers from a bad movie? Don’t get me started!). Well it’s good to know that there are others out there who adore the ludicrously bad as much as I and no one I know celebrates these bad films as well as the guys from The We Hate Movies Podcast. I invited Andrew, Steve, and Eric into the studio studio to talk about their podcast and why exactly they love to hate movies as much as me.

We took this opportunity to talk about one of the best bad good movies that is usually overlooked, X-Men 3: The Last Stand, to prove that great special effects and overblown action aren’t able to mask a ridiculous plot and some truly bad acting. Some of us like it more than others but everyone can agree that it was a huge let down from the previous film but sadly better than Wolverine. Which isn’t saying a lot.

Since these guys hate movies so much I had to subject them to a World Famous Lightning Round all about love. Could they see through their inborn cynicism to embrace the beauty of love? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Episode 66 – Married with Clickers

Live in the studio studio via Skype all the way from Toronto comes Scott and Kat of Married with Clickers. Primarily a movie review podcast, the show also covers television and the occasional work of literature. I had never spoken with the duo before this show but quickly found out that they are two of the nicest and most charming people in Canada. Their show is the product of listening to some of the greats (Show Show, GGTMC, Outside the Cinema – all once featured here) and they really bring the same je ne se quois you find in those shows.

In section two we take some time to talk about one of my all-time favorite pass times: celebrity stalking. As I live in New York and have travel regularly, and Scott and Kat use to visit New York regularly we all have great stories. From Anne Hathaway to Ed Norton to the creme de la creme Bruce Villanch, we all have great stories to share.

Being new to the podcasting world this was the duo’s first guest appearance on another show. Of course I had to make them suffer through The World Famous Lightning Round like everyone else. Did they live up to the high expectations I hold for all Canadians? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Episode 65 – “Mommie Dearest” Commentary with Gleekast

We’re taking a diversion from interviewing podcasters to kick back with a classic movie, a few drinks, and some good friends. You know that old story about the two scientists walking down a hallway. One is carrying some chocolate, the other is carrying some peanut butter and they bump into each other creating a taste sensation that sweeps the nation? That’s what this is like. We took one of my favorite movies, the 1981 classic, campy, Razzie Award winning testament to old Hollywood and child abuse, Mommie Dearest, and two of my favorite lovely ladies, Erica and Emily from Gleekast, and combined them into a flavor explosion! My boyfriend George came along for the ride who just so happens to be the world’s foremost leading expert on the movie, unbeknownst to me. If you’ve seen the movie and love it as you should, or if you’re only Mommie-curious we invite you to queue up the movie and press play when we tell you to. We promise you information, history, and plenty of laughs along the way.

Episode 64 – Slugcast

After a lot of planning and delays The Pod Pod is proud to bring you Slug from the eponymous Slugcast. Slug is another Horrorhound regular who I’ve known for years and yes he is another podcaster. His show is a mix of indie music, movie reviews, and random flotsam and jetsam all steered by your dutiful, slimy host. Slug is not only a movie and music lover but he is also a horror host aficionado. As well as a beer brewer. This guy’s really got it all!

In addition to being all of the things mentioned above Slug is also a lover of podcasts. We took our second segment to discuss some of our favorite shows. Whereas there is some overlap there are a lot of shows that have not only never been featured here but that I have never heard of. Listen close because there’s a lot of information here and it comes at you pretty fast.

As a regular listener to The Pod Pod Slug came in fully prepared for The World Famous Lightning Round. Did his regular studying prepare him for the common bond curve ball I threw at him? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Episode 63 – The Podcast Podcast

Wanna talk about the overuse of the term “meta?” This is an episode of The Podcast Podcast featuring The Podcast Podcast by former Podcast Podcast guest Kevin Carr. Kevin flipped the script on me and offered kindly to interview me about my show. This week your friendly neighborhood host was in the hot seat and I think I handled myself with grace and charm. I can only hope I lived up to the standards set by every guest that has come before me.

Since this episode was all about my show and my love of the podcast medium we decided to talk about what makes a good podcast. Obviously I don’t really know but I shared what I enjoy and what I don’t. And if anything about your show falls into the “what I don’t” category you are the exception that proves the rule.

Of course no show would be complete without a trip to The World Famous Lightning Round. Kevin devised a common bond round that attempted to screw my brain like a French whore. Did he succeed in putting me in my place? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

The Late Night Chat Room Special Live Event

Welcome to the first ever Late Night Chat Room! A few months back Mr. Kevin Carr and I, along with Merrill Barr, came up with the idea of hosting a live variety/talk show to showcase the exemplary talent right next door. For the first show we were lucky enough to book The MI:ST Society, Manhattan-based paranormal researchers, Mr. Ben Lerman, world famous singer and ukelele comic, and the fabulous Ms. Kelli King, acoustic chanteuse.

The MI:ST society are based in the Inwood section of Manhattan and have been investigating the paranormal for years. Sometimes they come up empty handed when spirits are shady and other times they have brought back hard evidence. Regardless of the outcome each investigation is thorough and entertaining.

Ben Lerman has toured internationally bringing his unique brand of ukelele comedy and natural charm. Ben is one of those performers that someone in your circle of friends know of and definitely someone that everyone should know and love. You can’t help but smile through all three songs he performed for us.

Lastly, our lovely Kelli performed her original song, I’m Getting Good at Feeling Bad. This song is a beautiful, up-beat song about the self resilience inside of everyone to smile through the bad times. When you listen to the song you’ll find yourself smiling and possibly wiping away a small tear.

The live show was a great success and I know at least I enjoyed every second of it. Expect more of these live shows in the neat future!

Episode 61 – Wanna Watch a Movie Podcast

If you’re familiar with Horrorhound Weekend you’ll know that it’s the hippest, funnest spot to meet new and awesome people. The guests in the studio studio this week are two of those people. Whereas I met Jay at a recent Horrorhound I plan to meet his lovely wife Katie at the next excursion in November. This podcasting power-couple are the duo that make up The Wanna Watch a Movie Podcast. If you’re in a relationship you’ll know that “wanna watch a movie” is the most commonly asked question couples ask each other, right behind “what the fuck is wrong with you?”

Since Jay and Katie review films this week we talked about a movie they had both seen, Cowboys Vs. Aliens. I have since seen the movie and I can say that their assessment is pretty dead on. Trust these guys.

Of course I couldn’t let them leave without partaking in The World Famous Lightning Round. I devised a common bond round which relates to their show brilliantly. Did they crack the code? You’ll have to tune in, this bat time, this bat feed to find out.
